Specialty Class - Enzymes and the lipid metabolism of the skin

Cell to cell communication

This short course is designed for Corneotherapists and explores the world of the enzymes that control a multitude of events from the formation of the multilamellar lipid structure, Ceramides, Filaggrin and the corneocyte compaction process, the Microbiome, and the Acid mantle.
Understanding the enzymes and their relationship with the lipid metabolism of skin will further put you in the “big picture” of how complex the skin is, and help you understand how and why anomalous skin conditions are triggered.
Take your understanding of the skin to the next level with this short course!

At the end of this course, learners will understand:
• What enzymes are
• What these biological catalysts do
• The different types of enzymes and their specific roles
• Enzymes role in lipid metabolism
• The effects of reduced enzyme activity
• The importance of enzymes in skin barrier functions

Typical completion time: 1 hour.
